November is widely used as the traditional annual reminder to change
your smoke detector batteries .
- Standard Battery Replacement: If your smoke alarms use standard replaceable 9-volt or backup batteries, fire safety organizations like the National Fire Protection Association recommend replacing them at least once a year.
- The Connection: The end of Daylight Saving Time (when you "fall back" your clocks in early November) coincides with public safety campaigns like "Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries".
