2026 Electric Earth's Schubert and Farrenc
Electric Earth Concerts continues its season with “Schubert and Farrenc” on Thursday, July 16 at 7pm at The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, NH.
Winds, strings and piano fill the Park Theatre stage in this concert of big romantic works. The program features Schubert’s beloved Trout Quintet with pianist Mihae Lee, plus Louise Farrenc’s Nonet for winds and strings. Laura Gilbert, flute; Stephen Taylor, oboe; Benjamin Fingland, clarinet; William Purvis, horn; Adrian Morejon, bassoon; Emilie-Anne Gendron, violin; Jonathan Bagg viola; Thomas Kraines, cello; Jered Egan, double bass; Mihae Lee, piano.
Rather than the usual piano quintet ensemble of piano and string quartet, the Trout Quintet is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. Parts of it are often heard as background music in movies, television and in advertisements, which speaks to its longevity and popularity. When the Trout Quintet is performed live on a stage, in front of a live audience, this masterpiece charms and delights audiences throughout the world.

Louise Farrenc, a French pianist and composer, wrote mostly for solo piano and chamber music for ensembles with piano; the Nonet was her only chamber composition without a piano. Despite not having the popular profile of her male composer counterparts, Louise Farrenc never gave up writing music. She composed orchestral symphonies and overtures (of which Hector Berlioz was a big fan). But it was her chamber music that made the biggest impact.
